Highlights from NYC Real Estate Tech Week 2024

MetaProp’s mission with NYC Real Estate Tech Week is clear: unite the brightest minds and leading real estate innovators in New York City to accelerate the digitization and decarbonization of the built world.

Now in its 8th year, NYC Real Estate Tech Week has truly grown to become a must-attend event for PropTech founders, investors, real estate executives, and thought leaders from around the world. The 2024 edition broke records with unparalleled attendance, world-class speakers, and transformative discussions that exceeded our wildest expectations.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners—CREtech, REBNY, Columbia University, LMRE, and PwC—for making this week an extraordinary success.

CRETECH NEW YORK

As the flagship event of NYCRETW, CREtech New York featured an unparalleled lineup of global thought leaders and dynamic panels. I had the opportunity to deliver the conference’s opening address, kicking off a series of insightful discussions over the 2-day conference, including: 

• Inside BXP: Sustainability Meets Technology: Executives from BXP and Measurabl shared their approach to helping real estate reach net zero.
• Redefining NYC’s Landscape with Sustainable Spaces: Rudin and Convene discussed urban renewal and sustainable developments.
• Inside the Minds of the World’s Top Tenants: Leaders from Salesforce, McKesson, Comcast, and Pfizer explored the shifting power towards the hands of tenants.
• Inside NYC's Climate Revolution: Sam Chandan (NYU Stern) and Andrew Kimball (NYCEDC) examined how NYC is leading global sustainability efforts.
• The State Of Global Climate Tech Investing In The Built World: Pi Labs, JLL Spark, Autodesk, Building Ventures, and TrioVest shared their frontlines views. 

CREtech day 1 concluded with a VIP Cocktail Reception hosted by Cherre, Dealpath, Fidelity, PropTech Sweden, Beaumont Bailey, and Measurabl, offering an exclusive networking opportunity for attendees.

Highlights from MetaProp’s 2024 Annual General Meeting:

Amid the week’s excitement, we hosted our Annual General Meeting, an exclusive gathering of the MetaProp’s investors, portfolio founders, and industry leaders to network and share insights on the trends, challenges, and emerging opportunities in real estate and technology. 

The AGM kicked off at the iconic Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan, where the MetaProp community gathered over dinner and drinks to foster meaningful connections.

The following day, the meeting continued with a packed agenda of firm and market updates as well as a dynamic lineup of discussions, fireside chats, and panels. 

• The MetaProp team reflected on the key milestones achieved throughout the year and shared the firm's frontline view of trends shaping the future of PropTech.
• Caren Maio, CEO of 100, shared her journey building a platform revolutionizing renter qualification and verification in the multifamily sector, offering insights into bringing new solutions to market in today's environment.
• Brian Hardecker, CEO of Truehold, discussed how his company empowers homeowners through innovative sale-leaseback solutions that unlock home equity while enabling aging in place. 
• Bradley Tusk (Tusk Venture Partners) and Julie Samuels (Tech: NYC) explored the intersection of policy, real estate, and technology, highlighting how regulatory frameworks are shaping the future of the industry.
• The Future of Climate Tech panel featured leaders from MetaProp’s portfolio, including Sheida Shahi (Adaptis), Bill Clark (Demex), and Ely Greenberg (Kelvin), discussing how innovative solutions are driving sustainability across the built world. The panel also featured Measurabl President and former MetaProp Partner Maureen Waters and former PGIM Real Estate Executive and MetaProp Board Member Phil Barrett. 
• Portfolio and Valued Customer collaboration case studies showcased how MetaProp portfolio companies VergeSense and Advocate are creating tangible value for their customers and driving innovation at scale.
• Attendees explored live product demonstrations by graduates from Palazzo and Light RFP, graduates of the 2024 MetaProp Accelerator at Columbia University.
